The New, Thinner Mrs. Potato Head--Plus 3 Other Toys With Body Makeovers

Did you see this? Everyone favorite fry girl, Mrs. Potato Head, and her mister, just got makeovers. The spuds have been slenderized!

Hasbro calls the slimmer duo "Active Adventure" Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head. They're not being marketed in a thinner-equals-better sort of way--they just had an "extreme bake-over" (heh!) says Hasbro--but experts still have questions as to whether the change reflects society's feelings about thinness.

From Time: "But toys that seek to get kids moving are different from those that simply reflect slim figures. 'It's part of a trend, but it's a negative trend,' says [Washington D.C.-based child psychiatrist Jean M.] Thomas. 'It's silly on one hand, but worrisome that the culture basically has suggested to the toy companies that they should get on the bandwagon and make slim beautiful.'"
